Disney Cinéma is to close in the French market once new streaming service Disney+ makes its debut on Canal+.
The channel, which is part of the French paycaster’s Series Cine Pack is expected to cease broadcasting in the next few weeks. It was originally launched in 2007 as Disney Cinemagic. Now may be the time to watch what happens in other markets, such as the UK, where Disney+ is joining a platform that already plays host to linear Disney content.
As announced in December Canal+ will be the sole distributor of Disney+ in France, and the French broadcaster will also continue to have exclusive rights to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucas Film and 20th Century Fox films, including the Star Wars and Avengers movies, and will also be the only distributor of Disney channels in France, including Disney Channel and Disney Junior, and will keep distributing the National Geographic, Voyage and Fox Play channels.
