Canal+ has continued its sporting spending spree with the acquisition of pay-TV rights to the UEFA Europa League between 2021 and 2024.
Having already secured joint rights to the top two games in each round of matches, and the final, it has now picked up rights to another 16 in the Europa League and Europa League conference. However, these will need to be shared with a free-to-air broadcaster.
Canal can choose whether it wants to screen a match from the Europa League or the Conference.
A new round of bids has now been launched for the remaining games in the two European competitions, the Europa League, and the new Europa League Conference in the French market. A decision on these 266 matches is expected on Monday (December 16).
In the space of a fortnight, Canal has also secured the rights to League 1 from 2020 to 2024 and the Champions League for the three seasons from 2021 to 2024.
