Netflix is seeking formal authorization to continue operating in Turkey
After last month's approval of a new law by the Broadcasting Council of Broadcasting Authority in Turkey, the council also asked the American company Netflix to obtain a license to continue operating in Turkey.
The new law restricts the release of any audio-visual content subject to official authorization by the Turkish government.
Netflix has more than 1.5 million subscribers in Turkey and now has to pay 0.5% of its revenue as a tax to the Turkish government while establishing regional offices in the country.
Earlier there was news of a protest by Netflix executives and the departure of the company from Turkey, but the Netflix office eventually issued a statement refuting the rumor that it had begun the process of obtaining a business license in Turkey.
