Spanish communication and competition regulator CNMC has opened the way for over-the-top (OTT) providers to air the beIN Sports and beIN LaLiga sports channels in the same conditions as traditional operators after announcing the completion of its probe into broadcaster Mediapro for possible anti-competitive practices. The investigation was launched after Obwan Networks and Services – which sells sport content in Spain via its Opensport OTT platform – complained that Mediapro offered unfair and discriminatory terms of sale to OTT pay-TV operators, effectively shutting them out of the market.
