DTH is the most popular way of receiving TV services in Slovakia.
According to data provided by the Office for Regulation of Electronic
Communications and Postal Services (RÚ), there were approximately one
million satellite TV users under contract with a service provider as of
the end of 2016.
The second most popular reception mode was cable with 413,000 active users, of whom 213,000 opted for DVB-C services.
IPTV, in third place, had 337,000 active users.
All told, there were around 1.8 million pay-TV viewers under contract with an operator.
The RÚ notes that viewers can also watch TV through a microwave system
(MMDS or MVDS), mobile communications network or free or pay DTT
(DVB-T).
It adds that it did not have estimates of how many viewers receive programmes via DVB-T.
